Okello Onyum Pleads Not Guilty in Ggaba Daycare Murder Case, Shocks Community
Christopher Okello Onyum, the prime suspect in the alleged murder of four toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Center, has pleaded not guilty to all charges in a case that has shaken Kampala residents and sparked conversations among university students across the country.
Okello appeared before a mobile court session held at the scene of the alleged crime in Ggaba on Monday under tight security. The unusual courtroom setup drew a large crowd of residents, many eager to witness the proceedings surrounding one of the most disturbing cases in recent weeks.
The court session, which began at exactly 11:00 am, was presided over by Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha, who formally read out four counts of murder against the accused. Each charge is linked to one of the toddlers who reportedly lost their lives at the daycare facility earlier this month.
According to court proceedings, Okello confirmed that he clearly understood all the charges brought against him. However, when asked to take a plea, he briefly consulted with his legal team before firmly denying the accusations.
“No, I plead otherwise. I plead not guilty,” Okello told the court.

The case has since drawn widespread attention, especially among campus students who have taken to social media to express concern over child safety and the need for stricter regulation of early childhood institutions. Many are also closely following the case as it unfolds, with debates emerging in lecture halls and online platforms.
Authorities say investigations are still ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the trial progresses. The court is expected to reconvene as prosecutors continue to build their case against the accused.
As the legal battle continues, the tragic incident remains a painful reminder of the need for vigilance and accountability in spaces meant to protect the most vulnerable members of society.
