Kyambogo University Student Cherotich Anita Scovia Killed By Speeding Vehicle in Bweyogerere

Kyambogo University is mourning the tragic loss of one of its students, Cherotich Anita Scovia, who died after being knocked down by a speeding vehicle in Bweyogerere on Monday, March 30, 2026.

Scovia, a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Environmental Science Technology and Management, lost her life instantly after the accident occurred at Fuelex Petrol Station in Bweyogerere at approximately 1:30 pm. According to official communication from the university, the impact of the crash resulted in fatal blunt force trauma injuries.

The incident was formally confirmed in a letter from the Office of the Dean of Students, addressed to Vice Chancellor Eli Katunguka and signed by Student Welfare Officer Bridget Mugume.

Following the accident, police transported her body to Mulago City Morgue, where a postmortem examination was conducted, confirming the cause of death as crash-related injuries sustained during the collision.

Scovia, whose registration number was 24/U/BME/0971/PE, was a resident attached to Nanziri Hall and described by peers as a dedicated student with a promising future ahead of her.

The university, through its Student Welfare Department, worked swiftly to support the bereaved family in line with its Student Burial Policy. Her body was handed over to relatives later that evening, and burial arrangements are set to take place in Kapchorwa District, Kiserem Sub-county, Rotok Village.

Her passing has sent shockwaves across the student community, raising renewed concern over road safety in high-traffic areas such as Bweyogerere. Many students navigate these roads daily, often on foot, in environments marked by speeding vehicles and limited pedestrian infrastructure.

University authorities extended the death announcement to top management, Senate members, student leadership, and faculty representatives, reflecting the weight of the loss within the institution.

Scovia’s death is a painful reminder of the risks students face beyond lecture halls, and has sparked calls for improved road safety measures to protect pedestrians in and around university zones.

The campus plus community continues to grieve a life cut short at its prime, as tributes pour in from classmates, lecturers, and friends. May her soul rest in peace.
